Corrections and Amendments Policy
If I publish something that is wrong, I correct it. This page explains how.
The three categories
Correction. A change to a substantive factual claim — something that changes, qualifies or removes a statement a reader might rely on. Corrections are always acknowledged on the piece.
Amendment. A minor change that does not affect meaning — a typo, a broken link, a formatting fix. Amendments are made silently.
Retraction. Withdrawal of a piece, in whole or in part, because the underlying claim does not stand. Retractions are always acknowledged publicly, and the original piece is marked as retracted.
How corrections appear
When I make a correction, I do three things:
- I correct the body of the piece where the error was.
- I add a dated correction note at the bottom of the piece explaining what was wrong and what it now says.
- I record the correction in the public corrections log.
I do not quietly change substantive claims without acknowledgement. If the text of a claim has meaningfully changed, the change is marked.
How quickly I correct
I correct promptly once an error is confirmed — in most cases within 48 hours of verification. More complex cases may take longer, but I do not leave an uncorrected error live while I sort out the detail.
How to tell me if I got something wrong
If you think I have published something inaccurate, email complaints@ennuination.com. Please include:
- The piece (link or title)
- The passage or claim you believe is wrong
- Why you believe it is wrong, and any evidence you can share
I will acknowledge receipt within 3 working days and tell you what I'm doing. If I need more time to check, I will say so.
If I disagree
Sometimes, after checking, I will conclude that the original claim stands. In that case I will tell you, explain why, and point to the evidence I relied on. If you still disagree, you can use the full Complaints Procedure.
Record-keeping
Every correction and retraction is logged with the date, the piece affected, the nature of the error, and the corrected text. This log is part of our accountability to readers and is available on request.
Public corrections log
This is the public record of every correction made to a published piece, covering a rolling 12-month period, as required under our IMPRESS commitments.
