Complaints Procedure

If you want to raise a concern about something we have published, this is how.

Who can complain

Anyone. You do not need to be a supporter, a subject of the piece, or a UK resident.

What I handle through this procedure

  • Accuracy. Something we published is factually wrong.
  • Fairness. You, or something you represent, has been represented unfairly.
  • Privacy. Something we published should not have been published in that form.
  • Conduct. Concerns about how we approached someone, conducted an interview, or behaved editorially.
  • Standards. A piece appears to breach the commitments on our Editorial Standards page.

How to complain

Email complaints@ennuination.com. Please include:

  • Your name and contact email
  • The piece you are complaining about (link or title)
  • What you believe went wrong
  • The outcome you are seeking (correction, clarification, right of reply, removal, apology)
  • Any supporting evidence or documents

If you do not have email access, I will accept written complaints through any other channel you can reach me on; tell me what works.

What happens next

  1. Acknowledgement within 3 working days. I will confirm receipt and tell you who is handling your complaint.
  2. Substantive response within 21 working days. I aim to respond more quickly; 21 working days is the outer limit for straightforward complaints.
  3. Complex cases. Where a complaint requires additional checking, legal consideration, or consultation with the people involved, I will tell you the timeline and keep you updated.
  4. Decision. The decision is made by the Editor-in-Chief. I will explain the reasoning and, where I uphold the complaint, what action I am taking (correction, clarification, right of reply, removal, apology, or a combination).

Conflicts of interest

Ennui Nation is currently a one-person operation; the same individual holds the Editor, Complaints Handler and Compliance roles. Where a complaint concerns that individual's own conduct or a decision they made, there is no internal secondary reviewer at this stage. In that situation, you may request an internal review as set out below, or escalate directly to IMPRESS once membership is confirmed. This will be revisited as the team grows.

🗨️
If you are not satisfied

Ennui Nation® is not currently a member of IPSO or IMPRESS. We have applied to join IMPRESS — the independent UK press regulator — as a credibility and complaints-handling commitment; our application was submitted 19 July 2026 and is under review. Until membership is confirmed, we are a self-regulating publisher, held to the standards set out on this site and accountable to our readers and to the courts.

If our response does not resolve your complaint, you can:

- Request an internal review by writing back within 28 days. A review is a fresh look at the decision, not a re-run of the original process.

- Once our IMPRESS membership is confirmed, refer your complaint to IMPRESS if you remain dissatisfied. You must do this within four months of the piece being published (or, if later, within four months of when you reasonably should have known there was cause for complaint, and in any case no later than 12 months after publication). Contact IMPRESS at complaints@impressorg.com, 020 3325 4288, or via impressorg.com.

- Take the matter to court if you have a legal cause of action. Nothing in this procedure affects your legal rights.

How we use complaints

Every complaint is logged. Where a complaint reveals a pattern or a systemic issue, I review and, where needed, update the relevant standard. Complaints are part of how I improve, not only how I answer readers.
